Bloggers Bookstudy - Axiom

Alright leaders...today we will continue the Bloggers Bookstudy as we dive in to Bill Hybel's book Axiom. If you skipped yesterday make sure you go back in time and check out iStacie.com!

Back to the present...Let's get started on page 58-66.
On page 58 Pastor Hybels poses a great question by using his axiom "6 X 6 Execution", "What is the greatest contribution that I can make to (insert your organization) in the next 6 weeks?"

So...what's your answer? In those six weeks, what are the 6 most important responsibilities that you can accomplish?

Of course there's nothing special about "six weeks" or "six responsibilities". But it is wise to set goals so that you have something that you are working towards.

Moving on...
On page 61, Pastor Hybels gives us another of his axioms - "Only God".
Simply put...Only God is the attitude and perspective you must have to be fulfilled in life. How can your life reflect more of "only God"?

That should give you something to think about today. Tomorrow stop by Yoel's blog to continue the blogger journey:)

Bloggers Bookstudy - How the Mighty Fall

Welcome to the Blogger's Bookstudy...today we are starting a new book titled "How the Mighty Fall" by Jim Collins.

Today's bookstudy will be an introduction to the book, so let's get started.

So...How do the mighty fall? Answering this question Jim Collins writes:

"I've come to see institutional decline like a staged disease: harder to detect but easier to cure in the early stages, easier to detect but harder to cure in the later stages. An institution can look strong on the outside but already be sick on the inside, dangerously on the cusp of a precipitous fall."

Some of the dangers that cause a fall can't be seen early on...but the symptoms are there.
Question - is your life/business/ministry showing any symptoms of decline? What wisdom can you seek out and put into effect?

There are 5 Stages of Decline that all companies and/or people go through:
1. Hubris Born of Success - when success is seen as an entitlement, and sight of what originally caused success is lost.
2. Undisciplined Pursuit of More - the thought of we're so great we can do anything! Overreaching is a slippery slope for how the mighty fall.
3. Denial of Risk and Peril - "warning signs" begin to show but external results remain strong enough to explain them away.
4. Grasping for Salvation - at this stage drastic change is made hoping to turn things around.
5. Capitulation to Irrelevance or Death - the downward spiral to insignificance.

Tomorrow we will dive into the 5 Stages of Decline so make sure you check out Marcy's Blog.

Blogger's Bookstudy!

Welcome back to Miller's Time Killer! Before you read on please take a quick peek at Cafecito to catch up on what Barby had to say about Getting Things Done, chapter 5.

In chapter 6, Mr. Allen writes about the best way to accomplish the tasks that need your personal attention.
Your tasks could be anything:
  • Emails in inbox
  • Contacts to be made
  • A video to produce
  • Buying groceries
  • Repainting your bedroom
At this point, the task requires action...you've already removed the junk and these are the tasks that you need to complete.

Mr. Allen suggest 3 key things when you are considering how to complete tasks.
  1. Do the first item on your list first. Don't skip around doing what you like or is easier first. At this point, all items need your attention so you might as well just start with the first task.
  • One way I've started this is by flipping how I read my emails. I know have my email set up where my oldest emails are at the top of my inbox. This allows me to accomplish the task that has been there the longest instead of completing the newer tasks that I just received.
2. Process one task at a time. This will allow you to improve on FRC's value of thinking as you stay on a task until it is complete.

3. Never put anything back on the "Task List". Don't take an task off until you have totally completed it.

If you're like me your tasks can, at times, be a bit overwhelming. Don't freak out...Just remember the 3 D's:
  1. Do It - But only if it takes you less than 2 minutes. These are the quick replies, memos, forwards. If it takes more than 2 minutes than "D" 2 or 3 is what you should do.
  2. Delegate It - Is there someone who can take care of this task for you. Remember to delegate then investigate. You don't dump a task on someone and then run. Remember that you are the one responsible to make sure that this task is completed with excellence.
  3. Defer It - If it takes longer than 2 minutes and you can't delegate it then you must defer. This simply means you schedule yourself time to complete this project.

Make sure you check out Pastor Lili's blog tomorrow for info about chapters 7&8!
